Non-ferrous metallurgy of the RK is presented by the Open Society "Nadvoitsky aluminium factory", which is included into the number of the largest socially significant enterprises of the republic. In 2001 the enterprise managed to achieve good results - the volume of manufacture of aluminium has grown by 5.5% in comparison with 2000, the average salary per worker has increased by 20%.

Despite the difficult situation in the market of aluminium, the reconstruction of the process equipment proceeds at the enterprise, replacement of electrolyzers with the more productive and harmless is carried out. It will allow to increase the volumes of manufacture at reduction of power inputs in the future. In 2001 it 6 electrolyzers has been replaced, and it is planned to replace the remaining 132 by 2006.

The Government carries out constant monitoring of the results of economic activities of the enterprise, analyzes changes of its tax feedback and assists in solving of some problems.

In 2001 the electropower complex worked stably, the index from physical volume has made 100.1% to the level of the year. At the increase of the current consumption of the electric power up to 7.7 billion K.W.H. the development of the own electric power has made 4.3 billion K.W.H., on the power flow from the federal wholesale market of the electric power and capacities (Russian Federation) it has been received 3,.4 billion K.W.H. or 44.6% from the general power consumption.

Tariffs for the electric power for the industrial enterprises of the republic and for the population are much lower than in the next regions. From 73 power supply systems of Russia, Karelia has 63 place under the average tariff. The average tariff for the electric power in the republic makes 40 copecks/K.W.H., in Leningrad region it is 56 copecks/K.W.H., in Novgorod it is 66.5 copecks/K.W.H., in Arkhangelsk it is 91 copecks/K.W.H. Nevertheless, the problem of payments for the consumed electric power remained sharp in the past year. Though the debts of the enterprises and organizations for power resources in comparison with 2000 has decreased a little, for January 1, 2002 it has made 7.9 billion roubles (8.2 billion roubles for January 1, 2001). Due to non-payments the Open Society "Karelenergo" was forced to introduce restrictions to consumers-defaulters by 11-15 megawatt, and also full switching-off of objects in some cases was carried out.

In order to exclude the negative consequences for the economy of the republic, related to the restriction on the current consumption, the Government of the republic has worked with the institutions of local government, heads of the enterprises and the organizations with the purpose of acceptance of exhaustive measures on maintenance of the current payments for power resources and repayment of the delayed debts in the volumes coordinated with joint-stock company "Karelenergo".

The situation in the engineering industry and metal working remains difficult. In 2001 there was a significant falling of volumes of manufacture in the branch, the index of physical volume has made 78.4%. First of all, it is caused by deterioration of parameters in the Open Society "Onega tractor factory", focused on orders for the wood complex. Release of tractors has decreased from 1250 in 2000 up to 654 in 2001, that is caused by reduction of solvent demand from the lumberers, and also realization of actions for full switch of the enterprise to release of new equipment. Thus, in 2001 the enterprise managed to reduce debts against budgetary system and to pass in the category of the solvent enterprises.

The Open Society "The Ship-building Factory "Avangard" was in difficult situation in 2001. The teamwork of the Government with the administration and proprietors of the factory has allowed to restore the license for manufacture and repair of military equipment, and in addition to receive licenses for cargo handling activity, manufacture of wooden sized structures, manufacturing of other products. Further it will enable the enterprise to expand the nomenclature of rendered kinds of services and to receive necessary orders. End of switching of the boiler-house of the factory to gas in the past year will allow the enterprise to reduce expenses for the basic manufacture.

At the same time, a number of the enterprises of the branch could increase the volumes of manufacture, so the Joint-Stock Company "Petrozavodskmash" for 2001 has made production on 701,963 million roubles or 131.6% to the level of 2000, at that more than 30% from the volume of manufacture makes export. The enterprise does not have debts against budgets of all levels.

The volumes of manufacture and the number of workers employed at Petrozavodsk radiofactory have increased. On the areas of the factory the rent enterprises and individual businessmen are placed, that repair of bark-peeling plants, stone-breakers, automobiles. The equipment for manufacture of corrugated paperboard, corrugated packing, woodworking tools are made, processing of waste products of plastic, hardware, fixtures, art frameworks etc. are made. Volume of output for 2001 has grown by 2.5 times. The volume of production on specialization of the Petrozavodsk radiofactory executed by its branch of the Open Company "Petroset" has made 18.104 million roubles or 153% by 2000.

In 2001 the joint venture "Karhos" in has achieved high results. Kostomuksha, which has commissioned new industrial shops in cost of $1.5 million on the assembling of automobile electroposting that has allowed to double the volume of manufacture up to 120 sets of electropostings per month. The number of working on the enterprise is planned to be doubled up to 400 persons. The enterprise exports production for automobile factories "Volvo" and "Scania" located in 12 countries of the world.

Good rates of growth of volumes of manufacture has Open Society "Byelomorsky metalcutting factory". For one year the volume of manufacture of the enterprise has made 44.452 million roubles, or 185.2% to the level of 2000.

In 2001 the enterprises of the light industryrepublics have made production in the comparable prices by 17.6% is more than in 2000, thus the release of bed-clothes has been increased by 25%, knitted products - by 4.2%, trousers - twice as much.

The Joint-Stock Company "Firm "ANA" increases manufacture (growth by 2.1 times), in December 2001 in the town of Pitkaranta the firm has created sewing shop on 50 workplaces.

At the same time, such enterprises as Open Company "Garment factory", "Onezhskie Zori" (86.2% to the level of 2000), Joint-Stock Company "Ontex" (78.4%) have lowered volumes of production

In past year of the enterprises of the light industry of the republic have taken part in the republican competitions on accommodation of orders for delivery of production for the enterprises of social sphere. As a result of the won competitions in 2001 for the enterprises of social sphere it was made and put to production on 4.0 million roubles, what has made 6% of annual volume of manufacture of the branch.

The analysis of work of the polygraphic industry shows that in 2001 the enterprise of branch worked stably.

The volume of the commodity output made by the state polygraphic enterprises for 2001, in the comparable prices has made 131.4% of the level of 2000. Now in the republic it is issued more than 70 types of newspapers. Taking into account the demand in the market of the paper-clean goods the printing house has increased the release of writing-books and school copy-book by 3 times, albums for drawing - by 3.4 times. From 14 state polygraphic enterprises 13 have received profit and in due time have paid payments in budgetary system and unappropriated funds.

For increase of volumes of release of polygraphic production, expansion of its assortment for the state unitary enterprise the Republican printing house named after P.F.Anohin from the Fund of reconstruction and development the investment credit in the amount of 4.4 million roubles is allocated, which is used for purchase of the new equipment.
