Interregional Relations
Inter-regional cooperation with the subjects of the Russian Federation plays the important role in the social and economic development of the republic.
The priorities and the purposes of the given cooperation and directing the efforts toward the regions - commodity markets of the production of the Karelian enterprises, potential investors of development of the basic industries of the republic, the nearest neighbors united with Karelia with a generality of problems and interests in the economy, ecology, and social sphere are determined more precisely.
Undoubtedly, Moscow and Saint Petersburg, cooperation with which develops actively enough, and also such large regions as the Nizhniy Novgorod area and a number of other regions belong to the first group of regions.
The second group of the Russian regions includes the potential investors, with which it is necessary to develop relations - the Republics of Tatarstan, Bashkortostan, Yakutia (Saha), Komi, the Saratov region, etc.
The third group includes Murmansk, Arkhangelsk, Vologda and Leningrad regions.
The most significant results have been achieved by the inter-regional cooperation in such branches as stone mining and stone-working, road construction, fur farming, manufacture of consumer goods, fish-breeding, and public health services.
Cooperation with Moscow for the past two years has brought more than 65 million roubles of investments to Kondopozhsky factory "Karelsky Granit (Karelian granite)", and about 60 million roubles in development of 2 deposits of natural stone. The general program of development of stone-working will make 500 million roubles.
Development of Pitkyarantskoye karieroupravlenie (Pitkyarantskoye quarry administration), in which over 40 million roubles have already been invested, proceeds.
The fur-breeding companied of Karelia closely cooperate with the fur companies of Saint Petersburg on selling finished goods, simultaneously receiving young fur animals from the enterprises of Leningrad region. Together with the partners from Leningrad region and Saint Petersburg the reconstruction of Vygsky and Kemsky fish-breeding factories is conducted, orders are placed at the radiofactory of Petrozavodsk and factory "Onego".
The joint-stock company "Petrozavodskmash" cooperates with the new partners in Adygeya, and the Onego tractor factory has the new partners in the Republic of Komi. The special attention is paid to the strengthening of relations with the partners in the countries of the CIS and, first of all, with Byelorussia and Ukraine.
The volume of export to Byelorussia in 2001 has made about 3.5 million dollars and has become half as much in comparison with the previous year. The Onega tractor factory and Segezhsky CPC have established close cooperation with the Byelorussian enterprises, the Ministry of Agriculture of the republic is purchasing also on the terms of leasing the Byelorussian agricultural machinery, and the cooperation in the field of power engineering grows stronger.
