Dear residents of Karelia!

On June 8 the Day of the Republic of Karelia will be festively celebrated. It will be the 80th anniversary of the republic.
The beginning of the state system of the republic dates back to 1920. On June 8 of that year the decision of All-Union central executive committee about the formation of the Karelian labor commune was issued.
In November 1991 Karelian Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic was transformed into the Republic of Karelia. It has its own symbols: the flag, hymn, coat-of -arms and capital.
For eight decades the Republic of Karelia has been transformed into highly developed industrial region.
Present and future of the republic is determined by the Conception of social-economic development. The program is aimed at the revival of the Republic of Karelia and better life for the people.
We celebrate the 80th anniversary with good results. The volume growth has been achieved in forest industry, in machine-making sector, in pulp and paper industry. Positive changes in the real sector of economics allow to solve social problems successfully.
The government is pursuing the goal of creating social-oriented economics. At present pensions are being paid in time, family discount debts has been decreased, the under-privileged citizens enjoy the address aid, much care is given to veterans and handicapped.
A referendum has been held in the republic this year. Its results are to be arranged judicially. The state system should meet modern requirements. It is connected directly with the prospects of economic, social, spiritual and cultural revival of the republic. The Legislative Assembly and the Government are working on a new reduction of the Karelian Constitution in order to bring it in line with the federal legislation.
The celebration of the Day of the Republic of Karelia is becoming a tradition. All the towns and districts of the republic took active part in the jubilation festivities. This is a holiday for all the dwellers. Thanks to their efforts our republic becomes richer and more beautiful. The Day of the Republic once more confirms the principle: where are strong regions there is strong Russia.
