The international sled dog race to take place in Karelia

A press conference devoted to the International middle-distance sled dog race On the Land of Sampo will take place in the Press Centre of Spartak stadium on January, 17 at noon.

The event is organized by the Ministry of the Republic of Karelia of Youth Affairs, Physical Training, Sports and Tourism, Administration Pryazha of national metropolitan region, and Scythians Tour Ltd.

On January, 20-21 the international middle-distance sled dog race will start in Karelia. Famous Russian and international racers and travellers will run the distance face to face with the severe nature of Karelia with the help of their four-legged friends: Siberian Huskies, Alaskan Malamutes and other breeds of dogs to show skill, powers of endurance, teamwork and speed.

Participants of the race are expected to run two 40-kilometer legs. Dogs will compete for the champion's title in several winter sports disciplines: sleds for up to 6 dogs, sleds for up to 8 dogs, and in ski joring (1 dog). Amateur starts on the distance of 15 km will be also organized.

The sled dog race will start from the sports center of the settlement of Pryazha. On January, 21 guests of the competition will be able to see the starting sleds from a parallel site of the Pryazha-Svyatozero highway. The fascinating dynamical finish of the race will take place on January, 22 on the same site.

Among the guests of honour of the event there are Victor Boyarsky – the legendary Russian polar traveller, director of the Russian State Arctic and Antarctic Museum, vice-president of the Association of polar explorers of Russia, and Feodor Konyukhov – the Honorary Academician of the Russian Academy of Arts, the full-fledged member of the Russian Geographical Society, the first traveller in the world who had reached five poles of our planet.

Frost and sun, bright performances of local folk bands, meetings with distinguished racers, interviews of organizers, participants, and guests, live programs, alive relationship, a sound spirit of the competition, pure-bred dogs and communion with nature – all these factors will make the event well remembered.
