The open international Cup of the Head of the Republic of Karelia Programming Contest for students concluded on February, 6 in Petrozavodsk. Head of the republic Andrei Nelidov congratulated the champions and prize winners of the contest.

Since long ago our republic has become one of the leadin region of Russia in the sphere of IT, and success and achievements of Karelian programmers have become if not a brand then a pride of Karelia, for sure.

It is worth mentioning that the Cup of the Head of the Republic of Karelia Programming Contest for computer whiz students is held within the winter training camp of the strongest student teams getting ready for the world programming contest. This training camp are traditionally held at Petrozavodsk State University, and every year computer science students from all over the world gather there.

This training camp was the twelth and included nine days of training, having gathered a record-breaking number of participants. 158 programmers, more than 50 teams representing universities of Russia, the USA, Japan, Poland, Byelorussia, Byelorussia, Kazakhstan, Ukraine, and Latvia have taken part in the training camp. Karelia was presented by three teams of university and high school students coahced by Denis Vlasov, teacher of the Chair of Applied Mathematics and Cybernetics of PetrSU.

– I'm very glad to see you faces, your smiles, it indicates your positive spirit. You are young, talented, you have the world before you. The most important thing is that you are fond of your work. Each of you seem a wizard to me. Our university, our Karelia, are really proud of this training camp and these contests. There's not many events in the world compared to this one, they can be counted on the fingers of one hand. Thank you for being so intelligent, for your desire to be the first, to be the best.

In turn, Anton Pankratiev, coach of programmers from Moscow State University, on behalf of all coaches has thanked Head of the Republic, the administration of PetrSU and organizers for the training camp and the contest that form a basis for preparation of all Russian teams, as well as teams of the neighbouring countries and beyond for the International Collegiate Programming Contest World Finals.

In the course of the years Karelian training camp and the Cup of the Head of the Republic of Karelia Programming Contest have become a sort of a 'primary' for the ACM ICPC. And there's no coincidence that since 2004 winners of the Cup of the Head of the Republic of Karelia Programming Contest many times became champions and prize winners of the ACM ICPC.

The next world contest will be held in Poland in May. By the way, the sure winner of this open international Cup of the Head of the Republic of Karelia Programming Contest for students is the team of the University of Warsaw.

– You've won here, and, perhaps, you'll be kind enough to let us win in Poland, – joked the organizers of the training camp in Petrozavodsk.
Students of the Saint Petersburg State University of Information Technologies, Mechanics and Optics stand the second best, and the third are students of Petrozavodsk State University.

the hands of the Head of Karelia.

Concluding the ceremony, Head of the Club of creativity of programmers of PetrSU Professor Vladimir Kuznetsov has pointed out that programmers accept Andrei Nelidov for their community. In turn, Head of Karelia has told, he started to use a computer in the 1970s and then the computer was as large as a whole lecture room at the university.
Let us add, that not only the strongest student teams are identified during the contest at PetrSU. These contests of young intellectuals contributes to improvement of quality of training of specialists of the top-qualification in the field of programming, as well as promotion of Karelia as the leading region of Russia in development of information technologies.
