Alexander Khudilainen congratulated the ensemble of Mayuri on its anniversary

Mayuri, the Indian dance ensemble from Karelia, celebrates its 25th anniversary. On October, 28 the Musical Theater of the Republic of Karelia was a venue for a great celebratoion concert devoted to this event.

Head of Karelia Alexander Khudilainen, Chairman of the Legislative Assembly of the Republic of Karelia Vladimir Semyonov, mayor of Petrozavodsk Nikolai Levin came to congratulate Mayuri. Consul General of the Republic of India in Saint-Petersburg Mr.Vishvas Sapkal came to take part in the solemn event on the invitation of Karelian party. And the lady of the celebration was the founder and the unchallenged leader of the ensemble Vera Evgrafova.

Mayuri is quite famous today both in Petrozavodsk, and in Karelia. Creative work of Mayuri which name came as giving tribute of admiration to the heroic dancer, as Mayur means male peacock in Hindi, so Mayuri is a female peacock respectively, goes down very well with the audience both in Russia, and abroad. The New York Times has called Mayuri's recent performance in New York "big hits...with zest, glee and an array of costumes so admirably vivid".

Mayuri is valued in India where the ensemble was invited many times to perform. And when Days of India are held in cities of Russia the Embassy the Consulate General of this country honours Mayuri with representing Indian culture there.

However, the most important is that Mayuri is loved dearly at home, in Petrozavodsk and in Karelia.

Congratulating the ensemble on the anniversary, Head of Karelia Alexander Khudilainen emphasized:

Culture of Karelia is appreciated in Russia and in the whole world, and Mayuri brings its essential and powerful contribution to a variety of cultures of the republic. Mayuri is one of the visiting cards of Karelia. It is not just the ensemble, it is the way of life of people who have devoted themselves to studying history, culture, and traditions of India.

Head of the republic addressed with special words of gratitude to Vera Evgrafova. Alexander Khudilainen has expressed confidence, that Mayuri has not won all the tops yet, and has wished the ensemble to keep growing pleasing its spectators with new beautiful performances.

On the oocasion of the anniversary the team of Mayuri is awarded a letter of thanks of the Head of Karelia. The oldest member of the ensemble Elena Fiskovets is awarded the title of The Honoured Worker of Culture of Republic of Karelia. Other members of the ensemble Natalia Fridman and Elena Shelepina have also received Certificates of Merit out of the hands of Alexander Khudilainen.

Mayuri' s celebration was bright and touching. Representatives of several generations of the ensemble have gathered at the anniversary concert. Dances of different styles, themes, costumes and music have really made India much more close to us.

Thus, the cooperation between Karelia and India may open a new page. Before taking part in the celebration, Alexander Khudilainen and Mr.Vishvas Sapkal have held a meeting in the Government of Karelia.

The parties have discussed prospects of cooperation between Karelia and India in the sphere of economy, tourism, culture, etc.

Head of Karelia has told, that in new economic policy of Karelia lots of attention is paid to investment projects, the bills aimed to improve the investment climate of the republic are already prepared.

In turn, Consul General of the Republic of India in Saint-Petersburg emphasized that bilateral cooperation has large potential. He has mentioned that he has come to Karelia for the second time after his visit to our republic in August with his family. During this visit Mr.Vishvas Sapkal intends to visit a number of enterprises of the republic which work in the sphere of food-processing industry and new technologies.

Matters at the meeting also concerned organization of joint cultural projects aimed at strengthening of friendship between the countries and nations.

Mr.Vishvas Sapkal has suggested to arrange performance of modern Indian movies in the republic, and has even offered to make an Indian film with a background of Karelian landscapes.

Karelia has many unique and beautiful places. Welcome! Alexander Khudilainen said in response.
