During his working visit to Karelia Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Dmitry Rogozin who also chairs the State Border Commission of the Russian Federation has held a meeting on the standing and development prospects of some border-crossing points located within the territory of the republic.
In his opening remarks Deputy Prime Minister of Russia has pointed out that within the past few years the issue of reconstructing border-crossing points in Karelia had been reviewed multiply. It was also discussed during the recent meeting with Head of Karelia Alexander Khudilainen.
– Karelia needs civilized border-crossing points in order to extract all the good out of unique geographical and other opportunities of the region. We've got to drive this issue from the dead-lock, and the sooner the better, – Dmitry Rogozin has pointed out.
On his words, the issue of reconstructing border-crossing point Syväoro and granting international status to it is under consideration, as well as reconstruction of railway infrastructure of multiway automobile border-crossing point Värtsilä. However, as Dmitry Rogozin has mentioned, a number of circumstances of utmost importance should be taken into account at that: first of all, it is a presence of a foreign state partner ready to develop this border-crossing point, and provision of synchronization of work with them.
– Arrangement of work on the state border is not just a technical matter. It is the image of the state, reputation of the country, demonstration of economic, political, cultural climate developed in the country. The crossing point on the border with Russia should be organised the way that makes all the procedures for our citizens and for citizens of neighbouring countries as simple as possible, – Deputy Prime Minister has told.
Head of Karelia Alexander Khudilainen has thanked Deputy Prime Minister of Russia for his attention to our republic. As head of the region has mentioned, at the recent meeting Dmitry Rogozin had taken Karelia's problems very much to heart and had entrusted many errands concerning the border infrastructure development.
– We realise clearly the prospects it offers to Karelia and to the Russian Federation as a whole. It is Russia's stature in the world, the entrance to our country. We should analyse ideas and proposals and make decisions to reignite the development of border infrastructure of the republic, – Alexander Khudilainen has told.
