Vladimir Putin Promised the Government of Karelia to Help Solve the Problems of Valaam
The meeting of the Head of the Government of the Republic of Karelia Sergey Katanandov with the Prime Minister of the Government of Russian Federation Vladimir Putin was held in Moscow.
In the course of the meeting the following questions were discussed:
- the further development of cooperation with Finland,
- the practical measures of assistance to the frontier guard troops located on the territory of Karelia,
- the signing of the Federal program of the Valaam revival. Vladimir Putin promised his support to the government of the republic.
Karelia will Get 40 mln Rubles to Pay Children Allowances
As a result of negotiations of the government of the Republic of Karelia with the ministry of finances of Russia the agreement was reached to get the means to pay the children allowances. 40 mln rubles are sent to the republic for this purpose. The republic needs 34 mln rubles to clear off a debt for 1998. 10 thousand judicial verdicts are being executed in the ministry of finances and that of welfare.
The Patriarch of All Russia Alexii II is Coming to Karelia Next June

The meeting of the Head of the Government of the Republic of Karelia Sergey Katanandov with The Patriarch of All Russia Alexii II was held in Moscow. In the course of the meeting the perspectives of the Valaam revival and the plans of 80th anniversary celebration of the foundation of the Republic of Karelia
were discussed. The Patriarch accepted the invitation to visit Karelia in June and to bless the Temple of Alexander Nevsky in Petrozavodsk. |
The Ecological Situation in Karelia is Supposed to Become Much Better for the Coming 10 Years
The Head of the Government of the Republic of Karelia Sergey Katanandov approved of the Territorial program to improve the ecological situation in the basin of the Baltic sea. This document, included in the appropriate Federal program, suggests to achieve ecological indexes, caused by multi- and bilateral international engagements and to accomplish the measures to stabilize and improve the environment.
In general the project will deal with technological processes at the republican enterprises and with the construction and reconstruction of purification systems. The program will be funded on the account of the republican budget, enterprises, Tacis program in the Republic of Karelia, the credit of All world bank of reconstruction and development and of foreign investments. The Ministry of economics RK is the
customer of the program. The endeavor will allow to improve the state of Karelian reservoirs, to stop direct
letting out of sewage to the Onega lake and the White sea and to decrease pollution of the environment.
