The International Workshop
"Academic, Research, Cultural and Public Health Care Networks Infrastructure Development
for the European North of Russia"
In Petrozavodsk, at the hotel "White Springs" (Belye Klyuchy)the international workshop "Academic, Research, Cultural and Public Health Care Networks Infrastructure Development for the European North of Russia is being held". The organizers of the workshop are Petrozavodsk State University and Research Institute of Information Technologies of Norway NORUT IT.
The objective of the workshop is to discuss the network infrastructure development for the Internet
technologies introduction at universities, schools, research centers, public health care and cultural institutions of European North.
During 4 years of co-operation a few projects on telecommunication infrastructure development in the Republic of Karelia, the Murmansk and Archangelsk oblasts have been accomplished within the framework of Euro-Arctic-Barents regional program. Now the united information space is the issue of the first priority.
Experts in the telecommunication area from the regional administrations, educational, scientific and health care institutions of the European North of Russia, from Denmark, Norway, Sweden and Finland participate in the workshop.
The organizers of the workshop expect that that co-ordinated and co-operative approach to the telecommunication infrastructure development will contribute into education, research, public health care. The implementation of new information technologies will promote quite new trends such as telemedicine, distance learning and so on. They believe that the united
information space will have great impact on the effectivity of the international cooperation in Northern Europe.
One of the expected results of the workshop activities is to establish an international working committee which should plan, coordinate and implement a common data communications infrastructure for non-commercial, academic and research networks in the Barents region.
