Vladimir Zlobin/. Students from a new branch of Petrozavodsk State University in Kostomuksha will
graduate with two diplomas - Russian and Finnish. The opening ceremony was held on Thursday in a Karelian town of Kostomuksha. The Head of the Government RK Sergey Katanandov considers this event important for the Republic of Karelia.
"Joint efforts of educators from Finland and from Karelia will accelerate political and economic processes in our republic, which has the longest boundary with Finland- member of European Union. We must use the advantages of our geographical situation. Karelia might serve "innovation tainting ground" for technology exchange with western countries" he said.
In spight of the official opening of the Kostomuksha branch, practically it has been working for three months. It houses more than 100 students, the republican budget pays for every fourth student, all the rest pay for the education themselves. The students can major in 5 subjects: management, social work, history of Finland and Scandinavian countries, ecology, information technologies in management. In the future
the exchange between Kostomuksha and Oulu (Finland) might be possible.

- stockholder company "Karelian Granule" celebrated a new 2000 year two weeks earlier. They
performed the plans of social economic development ahead of schedule. The crown of their work has been
the 7th ton of iron ore granule production since the beginning of the year. It makes the fifth part of all the similar production in the entire country.
The head of the Government RK Sergey Katanandov said in his interview to the Itar-Tass correspondent that the success of the production stuff was quite natural. "This is one of the stages of industry revival
in the republic, envisioned by the program of overcoming the economic crises in our northern region" he said.
We have already reached the increase of the volume of production in the forest complex of the republic.
It makes 20% more than last year production. Now we watch a great success in mining industry.
The leader consider this achievement as a result of joint efforts of all power branches in the republic,
promoting the investment attraction to the industrial sphere. "The economics of Karelia reached a new qualitative level," thinks Sergey Katanandov. "Now the republic has the honorable forth place in Russia
the growth of production volume considering.
The total year profit of the enterprise has made 250 mln rubles. Now the enterprise can afford to pay all the debts back - both to the budgets of all levels and extra budget funds. The average salary of the employees (more than 7 thousand people) is 4,5 thousand rubles per month, and it's more than at other enterprises in the Republic of Karelia.
