Dear dwellers of the republic of Karelia!

I wish you a Happy New Year!
Looking back at 1999 we consider it a fruitful and constructive year. The main result of our joint efforts is the stable work of enterprises, successful developments of the forest complex, wide use of our own natural resources.
The stabilization of social-economic situation, rise in industrial production have promoted paying back the
the budget salary debts, pensions, children allowances.
But the government is far from being pleased with the achieved results. A lot of work has to be done. Next year the social orientation in all power bodies activities will be a priority.
We have rich potentials in the republic of Karelia. We must go ahead.
The harder we work the better we live.
Today we are making a solid base for a stable economic development,
for the well-being of the citizens of the republic. By joint efforts we
will revive our beautiful Karelia.
We are on the verge of a new millennium. Let's toast to stability, peace
and friendship in our common Karelian home. I wish everybody happiness,
joy and success!
