General information

The Official Representation of the Republic of Karelia in St.Petersburg was formed by the decision of the Head of the Government of the Republic of Karelia from11.09.97 N532 and got the state registration certificate in the Registration Chamber of St.Petersburg 13.10.97.

The Official Representation is part of the state government bodies of the Republic of Karelia, and as it is has a status of a juridical person. The staff includes 5 employees.

The Official Representation is guided by the current legislation of Russian Federation and the Republic of Karelia, decisions and decrees of the Head of the Government of the Republic of Karelia, the Regulations of the Official Representatives, approved by the decision of the Head of the Government of the Republic of Karelia from 11.09.97 N 532.

Activities

The main directions of the activities of the Official Representation are:

• coordination of the activities of official persons, government power bodies of the Republic of Karelia with the government power bodies of St.Petersburg and the Leningrad oblast;
• representatives of the interest of the Republic of Karelia in the government power bodies of St.Petersburg and the Leningrad oblast;
• carrying out business contacts concerning the interests of the Republic of Karelia;
• assistance in establishing and development mutually beneficial cooperation between the juridical persons of the Republic of Karelia, St.Petersburg and the Leningrad oblast in the sphere of selling goods, produced on the territory of the Republic of Karelia.

To implement all these objectives the Official Representation establishes contacts with the committees of St.Petersburg and the Leningrad oblast Administrations, Association of economic cooperation "North-West", enterprises, organizations and firms, carrying out commercial activities in St. Petersburg and on the inter-regional level. The main objective of the Official Representation is to fulfil The Agreement of economic, science-technical, cultural and social areas between the St. Petersburg Administration and the Government of the Republic of Karelia, and the Program of mutual cooperation of the Republic of Karelia and St. Petersburg, signed 22.02.99.

To implement the Agreement the co-workers of the Official Representation assist the ministries and departments of the Republic of Karelia to fulfil the concrete arrangements of the Program of cooperation and to establish mutually beneficial business contacts with enterprises and organizations located on the territory of St.Petersburg and the Leningrad oblast;

Considering the complicated economic and social situation in the region and the objectives which the government of the Republic of Karelia faces, the Official Representatives gives special consideration the problem of investment attractions to fulfil various programs and projects for the Republic of Karelia.

The co-workers of the Official Representation participate permanently in the work of the workshops, sittings, exhibitions held in St.Petersburg by the state, public and other organizations. Information is being sent to the Government of the Republic of Karelia, departments and ministries.

To consider and implement concrete problems the Official Representation establishes and keeps contacts with the representatives of other subjects of Russian Federation, and also with the consulates of foreign countries accredited in St.Petersburg. The Official Representatives also helps to fulfil the objectives for people from Karelia when they come on business-trips to St.Petersburg.
