A New Banner of Petrozavodsk Soars Over Lake Onego
PETROZAVODSK, April 28 /The ITAR-TASS corr. Vladimir Zlobin/. The city banner is added to the symbolic of Petrozavodsk.
On the eve of the First May holiday, it was hoisted on the administration building of local power body, located on the shore of the Onega lake. The banner designed by Nickolai Trishkov, the Chief City Artist,
is a rectangle of white fabric with the Petrozavodsk coat-of-arms in its left corner. The blue wavy line decorates the bottom of the banner.
The establishment of the city banner is connected with the coming 300th anniversary of Petrozavodsk.
On the eve of this event, the deputies made a decision to attach the city an official status of the capital of the Republic of Karelia. The status might influence the assignments to the city from the republican budget.
The city will need them to compensate expenses for its new functions as a capital.
So far Petrozavodsk has had its coat-of-arms and banner. Now is the anthem's turn.
New Information Technologies in Pedagogy in Petrozavodsk State University
PETROZAVODSK, April 28 /The ITAR-TASS corr. Vladimir Zlobin/. The unique computer net has been created in Petrozavodsk State University.
It unites 7 campus buildings, and about 5 thousand of faculty and students are registered as its users. This is one of the most significant results of the 40 years of existence of the Center of new information technologies.
As Victor Vassylyev, Rector of the University, professor, told the ITAR-TASS correspondent,
the efficient technologies of E-mail usage inside of the university, teleconferences, computer ads had been developed at the Center. Now every student and instructor enjoys free access to the Internet resources via the Center of information technologies. There are 4 computer classes with free access to the Internet. Every day
more than 500 users are registered here: students, instructors, representatives of public organizations.
The Center is developing the information net of the university vigorously. Software for teaching different subjects have been created and are being used for educational purposes. Electronic library catalogue, containing more than 230 thousand documents, has been developed and opened for remote access.
The following data bases are functioning: "Applicants," " Teachers and Staff," "Students," " Alumni." The data base "The Legislation of the Republic of Karelia" includes about 5 thousand normative acts.
