Finno- Ugrian Peoples Get Together in Petrozavodsk

Two big festivals will be held on June 5-9 in Petrozavodsk, the capital of the Republic of Karelia: IX International Folk Lore Festival of Ugro-Finnish Peoples and IV International Festival "Kantele". Ensembles from Hanti-Mansijsky Autonomous District, Tver oblast, Udmurtia, Mary-El, Mordovia, Komi, Novgorod, Pskov, Vladimir , Leningrad oblasts, Komi-Permatsky Autonomous District, Tatarstan, Latvia, Finland, Hungary, Sweden, Norway, and the Republic of Karelia has applied for participation. More than 500 people are going to take part in the festivals. Official delegations and a great number of guests are expected as well.

The organizers are: the Ministry of culture RK, the House of People's Creativity, the Republican Center of National Cultures, the State Committee on National Policy of the Republic of Karelia. The program includes performances in the city, concerts in the districts of the republic, city tours, musical instruments exhibition, young Petrozavodsk artists' exhibition, the conference "Finno-Ugrian Culture in the Modern World", and a lot more.
