Seminar on Heat Supply of Cross-Border Districts of the Republic of Karelia Open in Petrozavodsk

PETROZAVODSK, May 22 /The ITAR-TASS corr. Valery Potashov/. The Government of the Republic of Karelia is going to transfer some of fuel oil and coal boilers to local energy power resources - wood waste and peat. It was stated at the International seminar on the issues of heat supply held in Petrozavodsk. To reconstruct cross-border boilers, the Government of the republic is going to attract the means of European financial structures, that's why the representatives of the World bank, the Ecological financial corporation of the Northern countries, and the Finland ecological fund participated in the conference.

As the ITAR-TASS correspondent was told by Alexei Kozin, one of the organizers of the meeting, the coordinator of the TACIS project "The strategy of stable heat supply of cross-border districts of the Republic of Karelia", the Kalevala settlement located in the North-West of the republic was chosen as a pilot project of reconstruction. To implement the project, the Government of the Republic of Karelia counts on attraction free assistance of the European Union as a TACIS grant cost 430 thousand Euro. Besides, the Ecological financial corporation of Northern countries will allocate a loan of 1 mln 50 thousand Euro. Alexei Kozin also thinks it's quite likely to get a portion of the means from the Global ecological fund, because having reconstructed the boilers, the Republic of Karelia will significantly decrease pollution in cross-border districts.

The main issue of discussion was interaction of private farmers with local power bodies. Gennady Kolosov, Minister of agriculture, informed the participants that in our republic the government cares about private farms development through the subsidies given to the private farmers if they sell milk and meat to processing enterprises or to the budget institutions. These farms received about 3 mln rubles from the republican budget in 2000. Last updated: 24 May 2001
