A Sitting of the State Council Working Group of Russian Federation is be Held in Petrozavodsk

PETROZAVODSK, May 31. /The ITAR-TASS corr. Vladimir Zlobin and Valery Potashov/. The education reform is out of the question in Russia. It was stated by Sergey Katanandov, Member of Presidium of the State Council, Head of the Government of the Republic of Karelia before the beginning of the sitting of the working group of the State Council on the education reform issues, open in Petrozavodsk today. Sergey Katanandov is the leader of the working group, which includes teachers, governors, the State Duma deputies, public representatives.

"We have a good system of education, and we have to keep it," Segey Katanandov believes.

In his opinion, it's the state educational policy we have to change. At the sitting, specific proposals on education development will be discussed. The discussion is expected to be interesting and productive.

Sergey Katanandov announced the following order of the working group activities: the editing commission would sum up the discussion and prepare the first variant of the document "On educational policy of the Russian State" by the middle of June. "At the next sitting in Moscow we will emend and correct the document, and the final document is to be ready by the middle of July, at the sitting held in Samara. In this case we will be able to report the results of our activities at the sitting of the State Council in August," the leader of the working group said. Last updated: 1 June 2001
