The Karelian Poet Marat Tarasov Becomes a Member of International Pen-Club
The news has come recently from the Moscow headquarters of the International Pen-club organization. It was good news: Marat Tarasov, a famous Karelian poet, Head of the Karelian Writers Union, Chairman of Republican Children Fund, Honored Writer of the Republic of Karelia and of Russia has become a member of the International Pen-club.
Very few writers are privileged to be members of Pen-club: out of 15 000 writers and poets of Russia only about a hundred were honored to be accepted. Pen-club was founded by John Golsworthy, a famous English writer in 1921. At present, the club has its own centers in every country of the world. The objective of the club is to defend democracy, the rights of writers, poets, journalists, to develop the civilized society.
"In my opinion, I have been accepted, given the significance of the Republic of Karelia for the European Union," Marat Tarasov said. "That's why I would like to mention the contribution of Sergey Katanandov, Head of the Government of the Republic of Karelia, the members of the Karelian Government
in the development of the republic."
"My Moscow colleagues also confirm that our republic is a real link between Europe and Russia,"
said Marat Tarasov. "That's why it is so important to be integrated into the civilized world, to realize our responsibilities."
