Sportsmen Achievement
PETROZAVODSK, June 8 /The ITAR-TASS corr. Vladimir Zlobin/. Nine sportsmen of Moscow regional center "Adaptation in extreme conditions of water environment" have swum 65 km distance from the Kizhi island, famous for its architecture monuments, to Petrozavodsk. Today they have successfully come to the finish line at the embankment at center of the capital of the Republic of Karelia.
As Vladimir Lyutov, Head of the center said, the objective of the experiment was studying of survival in cold water. The temperature of the water in the Onego lake ranged from +2 C till +14 C. At time, strong streams and ice-cold water made the swimmers change in 15 minutes.
Vladimir Lyutov told the ITAR-TASS correspondent that such experiments have been made for 10 years in different reservoirs. They had swum across the lakes Baikal, Ladoga, Issik-Kul, the Yenisey river, the Bering strait. Now they are dreaming to struggle with the elements of Antarctida. Nobody has tried it as yet.
