April 29 at 11 o'clock in the morning Sergey Katanandov has held the press conference, where he has commented on preliminary results of the elections on the post of the Head of the republic.
According to all available information, S.Katanandov has significantly outstripped the rivals in the pre-election race.
S.Katanandov has thanked the citizens of Karelia for the rendered trust: "The support of the citizens of the republic is very important for our team for continuation of what we have begun in the previous 4 years".
As the future priorities on the post of the Head of the republic S.Katanandov has named the approval of the new structure of the Government and the Legislative Assembly, and realization of sowing.
Alongside with the post of the Head of the republic, the new structure of the republican Government means a post of the prime minister. S.Katanandov does not exclude that he will combine both posts.
Besides S.Katanandov has assured the journalists that no personnel cleanings, which could be expected, are expected in the Government, taking into account that S.Katanandov's rivals in the pre-election race were party functionaries, too. As S.Katanandov has declared: "Professionalism and decency remain the main criteria in formation of new executive bodies". Thus, the post of Minister of Economics of the RK is offered to Ivan Shurupov, the member of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation.
Replying the question about economic priorities of the new Government, S.Katanandov has declared that it will be guided "by the Concept of social and economic development of Karelia till 2010". The basic emphasis will be made, first of all, on traditional economy, and also on small and average business. The special attention in the industry will be given to the timber industry complex, stone-extraction and stone-processing. In the present year the Government plans the growth of economy at the level of 2.5-4 percents.
Evaluating the results of the Legislative Assembly of the RK elections and elections of the heads of local self-administrations, S.Katanandov has noted that in his opinion "the citizens of Karelia, have basically made the right choice based on common sense and the true analysis of the situation in the republic". From S.Katanandov's point of view, the efficient parliament is formed, which members are the people known and respected in Karelia.
