From November 21 till 23 in the Palace of Creativity of Children and Youth the IIIrd republican specialized exhibition "Karelia the tourist - 2002" organized by the State Committee of the RK on Physical Culture, Sport and Tourism and the exhibition agency "Euroforum" within the framework of the republican target program "Development of tourism in the Republic of Karelia for 2000-2002". For three days Petrozavodsk became the information tourist center for visitors and participants of the exhibition among whom there were representatives of the central and southern regions of Russia, Finland, Sweden, England, Estonia, the Russian International Academy of Tourism (Moscow), the Baltic International Academy of Tourism (Saint Petersburg), the National academy of tourism (Saint Petersburg), the External Economic Joint-Stock Company on Tourism and Investments INTOURIST (Moscow), Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation and many others.
Among 150 items of the exhibition including 30 foreign items 15 districts of Karelia were presented. The special attention of visitors was attracted by the bright presentation of the city of Petrozavodsk, to which forthcoming 300-th anniversary the exhibition was devoted. The traditional advertising tour of the exhibition also became the illustration of the anniversary. This tour was organized by Open Company "Lukomorie" Travel Agency (director Olga Lukina), including visiting of places of reception and rest of tourists in Petrozavodsk: the Municipal center of crafts, the Karelian Museum of Local Lore, History and Economy, club hotel "Prionezhsky", hotel "Maski" and the water sports centre "Aquatika". The Open Company "Ostrova" (director Svetlana Tuyunen) has organized the tour "The Spa "Marcial waters" - Assumption Church - Kondopoga" for the visitors and participants of the exhibition. The special attention of visitors from Saint Petersburg was attracted by the Ice Palace and the Palace of Arts of the Open Society "Kondopoga". The Open Company "Northwest Travelling Agency" under the supervision of senior manager Timofey Rogozhin has held the advertising tour "Active Vacation in Karelia", having presented the program of active leisure (snowmobile safari, jeep tours, paintball, etc.) on the basis of guest houses and country hotel "Kalevala".
Within the framework of the exhibition the two-day seminar, organized by the State Committee of the RK on Physical Culture, Sport and Tourism and TACIS project was held where the wide spectrum of aspects of development of tourism in the Republic of Karelia was considered. The large TACIS SBS-project "Development of frontier tourism in Russian part of Barents Euro-Arctic Region: the Republic of Karelia, Murmansk and Arkhangelsk areas" was evaluated. Basically practical problems of tourist sphere were discussed at the seminar: marketing, quality management, price policy, advertising, hotel business, rural hotel tourism and many other things.
In the Information tourist center of the Republic of Karelia the meeting of heads of the State Committee of the RK on Physical Culture, Sport and Tourism with leading experts of the tourist branch of the Northwest region of the Russian Federation and Finland where aspects of development of inter-regional cooperation and international designing in the sphere of tourism were discussed including the project of development of boating in the northwest of Russia was held within the framework of TACIS program. Under the initiative of heads of tour agencies within the framework of the exhibition the round table discussion "Talk-show: creative decisions of tourist products advertising. Small budget advertising campaigns" was held, and the of leaders of advertising business participated in it.
Traditional competition of exhibitors of the exhibition this year was replenished with new nominations. All participants of "Karelia the tourist - 2002" were awarded with diplomas of the State Committee of the RK on Physical Culture, Sport and Tourism. Representatives of Priazhinsky district were awarded with the diploma "For activ work on the stand". The diploma "For the best stand exposition" was received by the Open Company "Northwest Travelling Agency". From the point of view of jury of the competition the best presentation was offered by Petrozavodsk. The prize of sympathies was received by Irina Turkova, the young employee of the Open Company "Lena". In the nomination "Smile of the exhibition" the director of the Open Company "Lukomorie" Travel Agency Olga Lukina was unanimously recognized as the winner, and the director of Joint-Stock Company "Edem-Tour" Alevtin Stepanov was confered the rank of Mr.Tourister.
