PETROZAVODSK, June 7. INTERFAX NORTHWEST - In Karelia that celebrated the Day of the Republic on Sunday celebratory actions on the occasion of the 300-th anniversary of Petrozavodsk start.
Celebrating the Day of the Republic began from solemn ceremony of placing wreaths and flowers on the Eternal Flame memorial complex in the centre of Petrozavodsk in which the Head of Karelia Sergey Katanandov, the chairman of the Legislative Assembly of the republic Nikolay Levin, the townspeople and visitors of the capital participated, as INETRFAX was informed on Saturday in the press-service of the republican administration.
In the evening in the Musical Theatre of Karelia ceremonial meeting and the celebratory concert was held. Keeping up with the tradition on the Day of the republic the name of the new honourable citizen of Karelia is named. This year Ivan Tkachuk, director of the State Unitary Enterprise Tolvuisky State Farm of Medvezhiegorsky district, companion of Order of the Red Banner of Labour is named the honourable citizen.
Within the framework of the holiday June on 7 and 8 in Lahdenpohja the fourth stage of rally championship of Russia Rally Karelia was be held. The line consisted of 16 parts which general length made 500 kms.
The basic events of celebrating the 300-th anniversary of Petrozavodsk will be held on June 27-29 when the city will celebrate the Day of Liberation.
In particular, consecration of the Church in the Name of Sacred Apostle John the Divine, youth march from the Black Tulip memorial complex and the memorial to the soldiers lost in the Chechen Republic to the Avenue of Heroes where placing of flowers and wreaths is expected.
Within the framework of celebration the following events are planned: opening of the historical exposition in the open-air on the territory of Onego Tractor Plant, presentation of the Nobiliary Assembly Hall of the Karelian State Museum of Local Lore, History and Economy, opening of four new monuments among which there is the monument to Gavrila Derzhavin, the first Governor of Petrozavodsk.
Except for it, in the water area of Onego lake international festival of wooden sailing vessels and opening of the sculpture presented by Joensuu (Finland), the twin sity of Petrozavodsk, on the quay of Onego, events within the framework of the joint Russian-Finnish project The Train of Culture will be held.
