On night of June, 20 - 21, The Train of Culture will departure from the station of Petrozavodsk within the framework of the Russian - Finnish project devoted to the 300-th anniversary of Petrozavodsk.
The project is realized by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Karelia, Committee on Culture of Arkhangelsk region, committees on culture of the province of Oulu and the union of communes of Northern Carelia (Finland) under patronage of the Head of the Republic of Karelia S.L.Katanadova, the governor of Oulu Eino Siuruainen and the governor of East Finland Pirje Ala-Kapee.
The idea of organization of the project unique on its coverage for the first time has been mentioned during negotiations with the Finnish partners in the Ministry of Culture in May of 2002, and then the contract on intention to realize the international project uniting 4 regions was signed. The main partners are the Ministry of Railway Tarnsportation of Russia, the State Railway of Finland, Customs and Boundary services of both countries.

Solemn welcome ceremony of The Train of Culture in Petrozavodsk will be held on June 27 at 11.00 p.m.
There will be 96 passengers in the train, who participate in the project, and 20 persons of the service brigade.
The program of stay in the districts provides acquaintance of local residents to concert performances of creative collectives of Finland, Arkhangelsk region and the Republic of Karelia. The art director of the project is G.I.Isaevsky. The art of performing will be presented by following actors: actors of Puppet Theatre, jazz duet, pop singers, male quartet of Kantele ensemble, Musical casket ensemble, and Karjala choreographic ensemble. Finnish collectives will perform rock music and 'world music', street theatre and clown performances.
Karelian - Finnish group of visual art prepares concept of the exhibition of modern art in a postal-baggage car and art actions at stations, 20 artists who will take part in work of the exposition are chosen. Artist V.V.Zorin developed the emblem of the project.
The basic cost of the project, namely rent of the train and all charges over the territory of Finland is covered by the Finnish party. The Republic of Karelia has received 500 thousand roubles from the federal target program Culture of Russia for realization of the project. At the expense of these means developing of the art concept of The Train of Culture, advertising and polygraphics, registration of Schengen visas of participants and charges over territories of Karelia was covered.
