PETROZAVODK, June 23 INTERFAX NORTHWEST - In Petrozavodsk which on June, 27 - June, 29 celebrated its 300-th anniversary, installation of the monument to the first governor of the capital of Karelia Gavrila Derzhavin began.
This monument which will be open in the center in Governor's park, will become the symbol of anniversary of thecity, as NORTHWEST has been declared in the press-service of the mayoralty of Petrozavodsk.
The bronze monument of the poet and the statesman in full growth and in full dress will be established on the pedestal of red granite. Total height of the monument will make 4.5 meters. On the plan of authors of the monument, sculptor Valtera Soini and architect Emil Kuldavletov, the monument reminding the figure of Peter I on its style, "will display poetic essence of one of the greatest poets of Russia of the XVIIIth century." The image of the poet and the governor on the memorial plate established in the house where G.Derzhavin lived in Petrozavodsk is taken for the near resemblance.
On realization of the project 18 million roubles was allocated from the republican budget. The monument was casted at Petrozavodskbummash.
The part of the front entrance, the central avenue of the park and the platform around the monument to Derzhavin will be decorated with crimson quartzite stone blocks. On avenues laid out again and pathes of the garden fixtures and benches in a classic sltyle are already established.
Total by celebrating the 300-th anniversary of the city two more monuments will be open in Petrozavodsk. Thus, the sculptural composition will be established on the quay of Onego Lake. It will be made of metal under the project of Finnish artists. The composition will symbolize twin-cities' relations of Petrozavodsk and the city of Joensuu from Suomi.
As for the place of location of small house where the founder of Petrozavodsk emperor Peter the Great in due time stopped and that was lost long time ago, in the historical zone of the recreation park the sculpture symbolizing the basis of the capital of Karelia will be established. The composition presented by Leningrad region will represent the young man holding a board with the coat of arms of the city in one hand, and a spear in another. The figure will stand in a boat sailing over the sea waves.
