Two books devoted to the 300-th history of the city were published in Petrozavodsk

PETROZAVODSK. /Correspondent of ITAR-TASS Vladimir Zlobin/. Two books on the history of Petrozavodsk were released simultaneously by Scandinavia local publishing house. They are devoted to the 300-th years anniversary of the city that will be celebrated on June, 27-29. The presentation was held in the Karelian museum of local lore, history and economy.

One of the books entitled Petrozavodsk Antiquitiespopularly tells about archeological discoveries on the territory of the city and its vicinities and culture of inhabitants of these places. For the first time readers will be able to get acquainted with results of archeological digs in Petrovskaya sloboda, which is historical city centre where the rests of the travelling palace of Peter the Great and of residence of the prince Alexander Menshikov remained. The second book is devoted to streets and districts of old Petrozavodsk. It is based on unique archival materials and publications in periodicals of the XIXth century.

"These books are the remarkable gift by the anniversary of Petrozavodsk, - the Deputy Minister of Press, Informatization and Public Relations of the Republic of Karelia Vladimir Lavrentiev has told at the presentation. - They are a component of the governmental program on release of anniversary editions that includs 14 items." As he said, into realization of this program more than 3 million roubles from various sources was invested.
