PETROZAVODK, June 27. /Correspondent of ITAR-TASS Vladimir Zlobin/. Petrozavodsk, the capital of Karelia, celebrates 300th anniversary of founding the city by the Russian emperor Peter the Great. On June 27 the solemn anniversary assembly gathered the the best people of Karelia, representatives of labour collectives and public. Numerous visitors came to the republican musical drama theatre. Among them there was a chairman of the Council of Federation of Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Sergey Mironov, governors of northwest regions, governmental delegations from Finland and some other countries, and also from Petrozavodsk twin cities. Participants of the assembly enjoyed the concert of masters of arts in which Iosif Kobzon, Sofia Rotaru, Nadezhda Babkina and Russian song ensemble, Klara Novikova and other famous actors took part.
Celebrations on the occasion of the anniversary of Petrozavodsk will last for three days. The program of the holiday includes opening of a monument to the first governor of Karelia, the oustanding Russian poet and public figure Gavrila Derzhavin, fair of national creativity, dramatized performances, open-air concerts, sports competitions, sailing regatta, Ms.Petrozavodsk - 2003 contest, and international rock music festival. At the same time in the National theatre the second All-Russian festival of national culture with participation of Ludmila Zykina, Igor Moiseev's ensemble, and Pyatnitsky chorus will open.
