On July, 30 the official delegation of the Government of Moscow headed by the vice-mayor of Moscow Valery Shantsev has arrived to Karelia. The delegation includes the Minister of the Government of Moscow, the head of the Department of support and development of small business of Moscow Eugeny Yegorov, the chairman of the Committee of inter-regional relations and national policy of Moscow Mikhail Burov, the chairman of the Committee on culture Sergey Hudyakov, the director on manufacture of MKK-Holding Open Society Vladimir Eirikh and others.
Delegation was greeted by the Head of the Republic of Karelia Sergey Katanandov, the Prime Minister of the Government of the RK Pavel Chernov, the Chairman of the Legislative Assembly of the RK Nikolay Levin and others. Upon arrival in Besovets airport the delegation went to Pitkaranta where placing wreaths on the Cross of Grief memorial and visiting Pitkaranta quarry administration which works within the framework of the Agreement between the Government of Karelia and the Government of Moscow on trade, economic, scientific, technical and cultural cooperation was planned.
The basic trends of this cooperation include realization of the program in the sphere of development of extraction and processing of mineral raw material. The government of Moscow finances construction of a trial site on manufacture of schungite crumbs and stuff at the Open Company Karelsky Granit (Karelian Granite). In 2003 at the expense of the the investment program of Moscow extraction of granite blocks in Kalguvara and Soskujansaari mines has been financed to the sum of 12,9 million roubles. In total within the framework of this program the Moscow party has invested 120 million roubles.
The government of Moscow participated in preparation and realization of celebrating of the 300th anniversary of Petrozavodsk, in particular they rendered financial support for construction of the 2-nd turn of the embankment Onego lake. Through cooperation of Governments of Moscow and Karelia in the Museum of fine arts of the RK in May - June 2003 the art exhibition from the collection of Tretyakov Gallery was presented. 46 works of Russian artists Levitan, Aivazovsky, Repin and others were presented at the exhibition.
The branch of the Russian International Academy of tourism was also open in Petrozavodsk at participation of the Government of Moscow, scientific conferences and seminars on aspects of tourism in which representatives of the Moscow educational establishments take part are held.
Active cooperation is observed in the field of public health services: in 2003 specialized stationary and advisory help was rendered to 147 inhabitants of Karelia in medical institutions of Moscow, conferences and seminars are held, Karelian doctors improve their qualification in Moscow, and a few hundreds of muscovites in 2003 have received medical treatment in Marcial Waters sanatorium.
With a view of activization of trading cooperation contracts on delivery of Karelian fish production to Moscow are made. In 2003 about 3 thousand tons of fish production and 75 tons of a fish flourit was delivered.
Valery Shantsev has noted: "We support close mutually advantageous cooperation with Karelia for a long time. The government of the republic is of northern character: they speak a little, but do a lot. It suits us."
Signing the Agreement and the Report to the Agreement on Cooperation Between the Government of Moscow and the Government of the Republic of Karelia was held on July, 31. There signing the Agreement on Cooperation Between the Ministry of Culture and Public Relations of the Republic of Karelia and Committee on Culture of the Government of Moscow was held for the first time.
