The IVth World Congress of Finno-Ugric Peoples opened in Tallinn. The Congress' basic subject is "Youth is our future". A representative delegation from the Republic of Karelia lead by the Head of the Republic Sergey Katanandov participates in the Congress.

On August, 15 delegates have visited the museum in the open-air in the vicinities of the Estonian capital where in the extensive territory the system of traditional farms is kept. Features of national rural buildings, details of life and crafts, national creativity of Estonians are presented in the park.

On August, 16 in a music hall Estonia a plenary session was held. It was opened by the chairman of the advisory committee of Finno-Ugric peoples Valery Markov. Presidents of Estonia, Finland and Hungary Arnold Ruuttel, Tarja Halonen and Ferenc Madl have greted the Congress participants. The greeting of the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin was read by the First Deputy Minister of Culture and Mass Communications of the Russian Federation Leonid Nadirov. The deputy of the State Duma from the Republic of Karelia Valentina Pivnenko has addressed to the delegates with the message from the Chairman of the State Duma of the Russian Federation Boris Gryzlov.

The basic plenary report was made by the Hungarian professor Janosh Pustai. With anxiety he spoke about the future of national languages of Finno-Ugric peoples of Russia having caused his audience rise in applause by his ratings and conclusions. The orator has called to keep and increase greatly linguistic riches of small nations despite of local difficulties and political features. Among speakers of official delegations the Authorizied Karelian Council Chairman Victor Bogdanov and the Vepsian Culture Society Chairman Zinaida Strogalschikova spoke at the session.
