His Royal Highness Prince Edward, the Earl of Wessex, the member of The Royal Family of the Great Britain, will pay an official visit to the Republic of Karelia on September, 14, 2004. He is accompanied by the Consul General of the Great Britain in Saint Petersburg Mr.George Edgar, the Award's International Council member , the chief of the youth politics department of of the Ministry of Education of Finland Mr.Olli Saarella and other very important persons. The visit of His Royal Highness Prince Edward to the Karelian land is related to development of The Duke of Edinburgh's Award international programme of personal development of young people in the Republic of Karelia which is under patronage of The Royal Family of the Great Britain.
Most of the events included in the visit schedule assume dialogue with young people. First of all, it will be meetings with the participants of the Award program representing Karelia, Estonia, Finland, Leningrad region (Vyborg), Murmansk region and Veliky Novgorod. For the young people wishing to learn about the Award program a meeting in the assembley hall of Petrozavodsk State University is planned to be held on September, 16.
During the Prince Edward's official meeting with the Head of the Republic of Karelia in the Nobiliary Assembly Hall His Royal Highnes will present his condolences to the Russian people in the view of recent tragical events in Beslan.
It is planned, that Prince Edward and the Head of the Republic of Karelia will participate in the program of the International Academy of Youth Leadership camp where together with young people will pass tourist routes of the World of Adventures. The main event of the visit is Solemn Ceremony of delivering Bronze, Silver and Gold awards to participants of the international programme of personal development of young people Award and delivering letters of gratitude to people who develop and support the program in the Republic of Karelia. The Award ceremony will be held by the member of The Royal Family of the Great Britain His Royal Highness Prince Edward, the Earl of Wessex, and the Head of the Republic of Katelia Sergey L.Katanandov.
