On October, 5 within the framework of the session of the Regional Council of the Barents Euro-Arctic Region the Prime Minister of the Government of the Republic of Karelia Pavel Chernov and the Vice-Governor of the provence of Västebotten Joran Teolin have signed the Protocol of Intentions on realization of the Karelian-Swedish project on training experts for the forestry branch.
At the negotiation in the Government of Karelia which preceded the Protocol signing Joran Teolin has told that the project provides training for 400 Karelian experts in forestry within 2005-2006. Groups will be enrolled from among citizens of the city of Kostomuksha and Kalevala district.

The idea of realization of scale training for inhabitants of frontier areas emerged after the IKEA company enterprize construction was launched here. The Swedish concern has faced shortage of qualified personnel and has offered to train its employees to be.
It is planned, that at the first stage one thousand city and district dwellers will be able to submit their applications of whom the Swedish party will select 400 persons.

Students will be trained within three steps of academic program. 25 persons will go to work on probation at the timber industry enterprises of Sweden, adn then will assist the Swedish teachers and advisers. 100 persons will have the basic curriculum, which will last for 4-5 weeks in the city of Kostomuksha along with fortnight special training. The rest 275 persons will be trained only within the framework of the basic course.
Financial support of the Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA) is a condition of the project realization. Joran Teolin has assured the Karelian party that problems of financing of the project are almost solved, and only some formal conditions remain to be executed.
Pavel Chernov welcomed the Protocol signing. As he said, the signed document fills cooperation of Karelia with Sweden within the framework of the Barents Euro-Arctic Region with real deeds.
