Completing of the Oktyabrskaya Railroad electrification will become an event of All-Russian significance

PETROZAVODSK, November 29. /Correspondent of SPB-TASS Yuri Shleikin/. Completing of the Oktyabrskaya Railroad electrification expected in the beginning of December will become an event of All-Russian significance.

It was told today by the Head of the Republic of Karelia Sergey Katanandiov in the exclusive interview to the ITAR-TASS correspondent. On the importance for the republic electrification of the railway is a number one project as the rail road provides most of workplaces," the Head of Karelia has noted. "This project is important both for Karelia and the Northwest, and also for the entire Russia. Within the next few days, when electric locomotives will strat traffic across Karelia, electrification of a huge railway from Murmansk to Vladivostok will be completed."

According to Sergey Katanandov, in the republic,"railwaymen have done a tremendous work, which cost has made about $500 million. However, we shall not stop at this point. It is necessary to electrify the piece of line leading to the border with Finland."

As the Head of Karelia has emphasized, other large projects are impleneted successfully in the region this year. For example, two modern cargo steam-ships Byelorus and Kazakh of the international class have been launched, and mechanicians of Petrozavodsk under the order of partners from Belarus have build a paper-making machine which costs about $40 million.
