SAINT-PETERSBURG, December 14. /Correspondent of SPB-TASS Natalya Koroleva/. Leningrad region and the Republic of Karelia intend to involve investors in the regions conjointly. It was declared today by heads of the given subjects of the federation Valery Serdyukov and Sergey Katanandov on results of signing of the report of joint actions within the framework of cooperation agreement between them.
The Head of Karelia Sergey Katanandov has informed, that for five years of cooperation much has changed in both regions, therefore, the plans should have been amended. "Leningrad region is one of the developing regions of Russia, and we consider their experience in economic sphere, the more so as investors of Leningrad region expand their activities into Karelia creating similar manufactures," - he has emphasized. At the same time Sergey Katanandov has noted, that "regions should not compete in struggle for investors, but help each other, and we watch it closely." In turn, Valery Serdyukov has noted, that "Karelia is a worthy partner, the mining complex, processing industry, road construction, timber industry develop dynamically there." "We are pleased with rates of growth of Karelia, we develop dynamically, too, and our cooperation is of mutual advantage," - the governor of Leningrad region has noted.
The parties have agreed about mutual promotion of agricultural production in the regions, joint development of road infrastructure, and also have planned a number of actions in the sphere of education, public health services and culture. Opportunities for cooperation can be expanded on results of presentation of the investment potential of Karelia in the government of Leningrad region.
The Agreement between the Government of Leningrad region and the Government of Karelia on trade, economic, scientific, technical, and cultural cooperation has been signed on August 1, 2000. Since then a number of projects on construction and repair of roads have been implemented, many joint seminars on actual problems in various branches have been held. Besides, joint efforts have been aimed at development of an Internet site to establish contacts between Ingermalandians living in both regions, and granting 253 children from Karelia vacation in children's sanatoria of Leningrad region.
