"Economic development of Karelia: the regional recipe" was the title of the press conference of the Head of the RK Sergey Katanandov in the news agency RIA Novosti in Moscow.
Addressing to journalists, the head of the republic has noted, that this year, on results of 11 months, Karelia has achieved 21% growth of manufacture, and on this parameter has won the first place in the Northwest Federal District.

The gathered journalists have mentioned a wide spectrum of questions and have shown genuine interest to the present situation in the republic. Answering questions on the timber industry complex development, Sergey Katanandov has emphasized, that almost one half of industrial output falls on the share of this branch. The Karelian wood makes 6.5%, and saw-timbers make 4% of the general Russian volume. One third of the Russian newprint and half of paper sacks are made in Kondopoga and Segezha.
Large foreign concerns IKEA and Stora Enso invest in development of the republican sawing production. Simultaneously, manufacture of modern logging equipment under the license of one of the recognized leaders of the branch the Finnish company Pinox develops in Karelia.

Sergey Katanandov has shared with journalists plans for development of a road network and check points on the border, also at financial participation of the European community. "Now within the framework of Barents cooperation the project of construction of a new railway corridor which will connect North Europe with Siberia and China is considered," - S.Katanandov has told.
The Head of the republic has called Gazprom Open Society and Russian Railways , Inc., the major economic partners of Karelia. Now construction of gas mains, gasification of leading enterprises and settlements proceed in the republic, electrification of the Karelian piece of line has been completed.
