PETROZAVODSK, December 22. /Correspondent of SPB-TASS Yuri Shleikin/. Celebration of completing of electrification of the north route of Octyabrskaya railway from St.-Petersburg to Murmansk took place in Petrozavodsk on December, 22. Vice-Premier of the Government of Russia Alexander Zhukov, the Minister of Transport Igor Levitin, the Russian Railways, Inc., President Vladimir Yakunin, the Head of the Republic of Karelia Sergey Katanandov participated in the celebration.
As Sergey Katanandov has informed the SPB-TASS correspondent on the eve of the celebration, completing electrification of the 435-kilometer long Idel-Svir piece of line "is of great importance for both Karelia, and for Russia as a whole. By the range of importance of the project, it is number one for our republic, as the railway is the greatest employer here. The volume of investments of Octyabrskaya Railway Open Society in the project has made 15 billion roubles and the railwaymen have carried out a tremendous work."
The Head of the Republic also has noted, that implementation of this scale project will help to develop communication of industrial centres of Northwest - Murmansk, Karelia, Archangelsk and the Republic of Komi with other regions of Russia more effectively.
