Today the Plenipotentiary of the President of Russia in the Northwest Federal District Ilya Klebanov started consultations with the community of Karelia regarding nominees for the post of the supreme official of the region. In the morning the Plenipotentiary has held a meeting with representatives of the Karelian public organizations in Petrozavodsk.

As the member of the Public Board of the Russian Federation from the Republic of Karelia, chairman of the presidium of the Karelian Research Centre of the Russian Academy of Science Alexander Titov has noted, the conversation passed in a benevolent, concerned and confidential manner. According to Alexander Titov, the Plenipotentiary has explained that he has arrived to not speak, but to listen, therefore, the basic part of the meeting consisted of performances of representatives of public organizations. Social, economic, and political conditions in the region and nominees offered by Ilya Klebanov for the post of the Head of the Republic were discussed.
Today the Plenipotentiary will also meet with business circles of Karelia, representatives of political parties and deputies of the Legislative Assembly of the republic.
According to the federal legislation, criteria for selection of applicants for the post of the head of the subject of the Federation are their authority, business reputation and experience of public activity of considered candidates, as well as results of consultations in the region.
In the near future Ilya Klebanov will send his offers regarding nominees for the post of the Head of Karelia to the Administration of the President of Russia, and the list of candidates will contain no less than two names. Then the head of the Administration of the President of Russia will submit the nominees and accompanying files, including results of preliminary consultations, for consideration of the Head of the state. On the basis of the submitted information the President of Russia will propose the Legislative Assembly of Karelia to confirm one of the offered nominees' appointment.
