On February, 9 in Petrozavodsk the Plenipotentiary of the President of Russia in the Northwest Federal District Ilya Klebanov has lead consultations with the community of Karelia regarding nominees for the post of the supreme official of the region.
Having met wih the press on results of consultations, among applicants for the post of the Head of Karelia the Plenipotentiary has named the present head of the region Sergey Katanandov, the Legislative Assembly of the republic Chairman Nikolay Levin and the Prime Minister of the Government of Karelia Pavel Chernov.
Within the day Ilya Klebanov has met representatives of public organizations, heads of the enterprises and members of the parliament of the republic.
At the final press conference the Plenipotentiary has declared: "My offers concerning nominees for the post of the Head of Karelia have been supported by the majority of participants of consultations, and not only by supporters of the present authority." Answering the journalists' questions, Ilya Klebanov has stated his appreciation of the present conditions in Karelia.
Within the next few days the Plenipotentiary will forward his proposals to the Administration of the President of Russia. Then the nominees and accompanying files, including results of preliminary consultations held in the region will be submitted for Vladimir Putin's consideration. On the basis of the submitted information the President of Russia will propose the Legislative Assembly of Karelia to confirm one of the offered nominees' appointment.
