On March 3 at the special session of the Legislative Assembly of Karelia deputies have voted unanimously for providing Sergey Katanandov with powers of the Head of the Republic of Karelia. Sergey Katanandov's candidature has been submitted for consideration of the Karelian parliament by the President of Russia according to the federal law on general principles of the organization of bodies of the government of subjects of the Russian Federation.

Sergey Katanandov has thanked members of the parliament for the confidence rendered and has taken the oath of the Head of the Republic: "Exercising powers of the Head of the Republic of Karelia I swear to respect and protect the rights and freedom of the person and the citizen, to observe and protect the Constitution of the Russian Federation and federal laws, the Constitution and laws of the Republic of Karelia, to serve the people loyally." In his statement he has presented his new program We Build the Future Together to the deputies and the public.
Here, in the hall of the Karelian parliament Sergey Katanandov has signed the Decree on his assumption of the office. Plenipotentiary of the President of the Russian Federation in Northwest Federal District Ilya Klebanov who represented the nominee to to the Legislative Assembly has warmly congratulated Sergey Katanandov on assumption of the office of the Head of the Republic of Karelia.
