Even the rainy weather could not spoil the ceremony solemn of opening the Onego sailing regatta. 42 crews of yachts of different classes, hundreds of spectators have gathered by tradition at the river station building in Petrozavodsk.

The Chief Federal inspector in the RK Valentin Shmykov called participants of the 10-day race courageous and strong spirit people. The regatta organization committee and Post of Russia have have issued post envelope with the emblem of competitions in memory of such a significant sports event.

Addressing to the people, the Head of Karelia Sergey Katanandov has reminded that Petrozavodsk is a naval city keeping fine boat building traditions since Peter's times, and also supporting the regatta in the area of water of Onego lake, which has become a new sports tradition.

"Let the strongest win! I wish all participants seven feet of water under the keel," - Sergey Katanandov has told opening the regatta of 2006.

The XXXVth regatta of cruiser yachts in Onego by tradition has collected the best yachtsmen of the country who will not only participate in the stage of the open championship of Russia, but will also compete for the regatta's main prize founded by the Head of Karelia and making 200 thousand roubles.

In 10 days we will know names of winners and heroes of the Onego regatta who passed 500 sea miles in persistent struggle.
