PETROZAVODSK, September 26. /Correspondent of SPB-TASS Sergey Kulikayev/. Aspects of frontier cooperation of the Russian Federation and the European Union are discussed at the annual international conference which takes place in the capital of Karelia.
As the conference organizational committee chairman Head of Karelia Sergey Katanandov has told the SPB-TASS correspondent, among its participants there are representatives of federal and regional authorities, members of governments of the states participating in the EU and bordering upon the Russian Federations, and also heads of large Russian industrial companies. He has also noted, that "Karelia has gained interesting experience in frontier cooperation and foreign trade activities in the sphere of timber industry and mining", and "our economists will share their experience willingly with representatives of other regions of Russia". "At the same time, - the Head of the republic considers, - there is it lot we can learn from our foreign partners, and we shall be diligent students."
Experience of Karelia in teamwork with the federal center on formation of customs-tariff policy, and, in particular, reduction of export duties regarding production of profound processing and cancelling of export duties regarding manufacturing equipment may be of special interest for the conference participants. As a result, kraft paper, paper sacks, newprint, and cellulose export duties are cancelled, and saw-timber duties are reduced. Only for enterprises of timber industry complex of Karelia it has allowed to lower timber export expenses by $58 million.
