Reconstruction of the Museum of Local Lore, History and Economy

petrozavodsk.rfn.ru. 140 years ago in the building on the Round Square (nowadays Lenin Square) there lived the governor Grigory Grigoriev. From his apartments he has allocated a 30-square-meter room to create the first museum in Karelia. At one time there lived the poet Fedor Glinka and statesman Pavel Pestel. So, the museum building is of historical value.

Already at the entrance citizens and guests of the city meeting with architectural treasure. The visitor passes two columns made in 1855 for the arrival of Alexander the Second to Karelia.

A walk on the museum is long and fascinating: untouched sites of stone settings remained since the 18th century, gold-plated handles, arches under ceilings, many windows - architects have decided to keep the spirit of that time. The Museum of Local Lore, History and Economy expands its territory to two thousand square meters. These are 24 halls: conference audiences, premises for lecturing, replaceable exhibitions. And, of course, the pride of the museum - its constant expositions.

Creation of the constant exposition - is a complex and long work, - emphasizes director of the Karelian Museum of Local Lore, History and Economy Mikhail Goldenberg:

- It is a card of out land. We have very rich funds, about 200 thousand units of storage. Actually, it is material and spiritual riches of Karelia which should be shown to visitors and citizens of Petrozavodsk, and inhabitants of Karelia.

Reconstruction of the building is planned to be finished by 2010. Probably, celebrating of the 90th anniversary of the Karelian statehood and solemn opening of the museum will pass in one day, as two major events in history of the republic.
