PETROZAVODSK, August 6. /Correspondent of SPB-TASS Sergey Kulikayev/. It is necessary to accept a target state program on development of road infrastructure in the forest, as the First Deputy Minister of Forestry of Karelia Vladimir Matrosov has told it today to the SPB-TASS correspondent.
As he said, the majority of logging enterprises of the republic does not have necessary road network to use all-year-round to remove timber. Haulage and forestry roads of the republic stretch on 17 thousand kilometers, and density of road network in the republic makes only 2,4 kilometers per one thousand hectares of forest area. For optimum forest exploitation it is necessary to have density of road network from 10 to 15 kilometers per one thousand hectares of forest.
In the zone of commercial operation such norm averages 10 kilometers, and in the zone of intensive forestry it makes 15 kilometers per 1000 hectares.
The First Deputy Minister of Forestry of Karelia has also noted, that main stocks of mature and and overaged forest are concentrated in forest areas are least of all provided with haulage roads. Now about half of woods are accessible for exploitation in Medvezhiegorsk, Pryazha, Pitkäranta and Sortavala forest areas. Due to backwardness of road network in woods of Päozersky, Pudozh and Kalevala forest areas technically accessible cutting are does not exceed 40% percent od awailable cut. However, significant stocks of mature and and overaged forest are concentrated here. Only on these forest areas in the next 25 - 30 years it is necessary to build no less than 4,2 - 5,1 thousand kilometers of roads.
