The 4th International Ballet Festival held in Savonlinna (Finland)

Tour of Karelian actors in Savonlinna (Finland) where Karelian delegation of about 120 people came recently led by the Minister of Culture and Public Relations Galina Brun started with success. On August 7-9 the fortress of Olavinlinna hosts the 4th International Ballet Festival. On the first day of the festival Music Theatre of the RK performed the Swan Lake ballet staged by chief ballet master of the theatre Cyrill Simonov. Leading parties were played by soloists of Mariinsky theatre Ekaterina Kondaurova, Islom Baimuradov and Maxim Zyuzin, whose skill has produced an indelible impression both upon the Finnish spectators, and all actors participating in the of festival. Organizers of the festival have admitted, that they have not heard such applause for a long time.

Director of the festival Hannu Hyttinen has called the tour a victory of the festival, he considers that this year the festival has proved to be an important event of cultural life in Finland.

Symphonic orchestra of the Karelian State Philarmonic Society under direction of Marius Stravinsky takes part in the festival. The orchestra has the most complex mission: it should work every day both with our theatre, and with the Kantele ensemble, and with soloists. Nevertheless, musicians appreciate attention of the Finnish party. The main conductor and art director of the orchestra Marius Stravinsky has noted concentration of the orchestra, and the result of their performance was highly appreciated by spectators.

Karelian actors prepare to opening night - on August 9, on the stage of the medieval fortress Kantele will present the new ballet The Two Swans' Rock based on the national legend and music of Karelian composer Alexander Beloborodov.

Image of the swan was chosen a symbol of this festival, these birds are frequent visitors of lakes in the vicinities of Savonlinna. Coming back from the concert, satisfied with their success, from the window of their bus actors watched a pair swans in the lake full of pond lilies.
