Performance of actions on gasification of territory of Karelia goes according to the plan, - acting Minister of Construction of the RK Alexander Yefimov has noted during the meeting in the Government of Karelia. As he said, measures are taken in two directions: it is switch of industrial enterprises (boiler-houses) of municipal available housing over to natural gas, and development and construction of new inter-settlement and community gas-distributing networks.
The first agreement between the Government of Karelia and Gazprom, Inc., was signed in November, 1995. This is how the Volkhov - Petrozavodsk gas main has come to the republic. Its first stage was put into operation in November, 1996 that has enabled to provide Petrozavodsk thermal power station with natural gas. In December, 2004 Beryozovskaya gas-distributing station was commissioned, and natural gas went to the Petrozavodsk - Kondopoga gas main, that has allowed to switch Kondopoga, Inc., which is the largest enterprise of the republic, over to natural gas. In 2005 actions on gasification of Karelia for 2006-2010 have been developed to form the basic program document for cooperating with departments of Gazprom, Inc., regarding involvement of investments into construction of gas networks in territory of the republic.
Last year natural gas was hooked up to 22 municipal houses (225 apartments) and 48 individual houses in the village of Yanishpole of Kondopoga region. In October the modular boiler-house working on natural gas was started up in the same place. Today 11 enterprises in Karelia work on natural gas. Use of natural gas allows to lower dependence of the republic on external deliveries of coal and black oil, to reduce harmful influence to the environment, to improve investment prospects and business activity of the region.
Key event in performance of the gasification program in 2008 is switching of the settlement of Meliorativny over to natural gas. In 2009 natural gas should come to a few settlements of Karelia: Shuya, Beryozovka, Konchezero, Voronovo, etc., designing of the main to the settlement of Solomennoye and a boiler-house in the village of Konchezero have begun.
Besides, within the framework of implementation of the largest in Northwest region project of Gazprom, Inc., on development of Shtokmanovsky gas-condensate field, gasification program of the republic will include northern regional centers: Louhi, Kem, Byelomorsk, Segezha, and Medvezhyegorsk.
Implementation of the gasification project allows to involve large investments that should influence positively the living standard of local population and increase business activity in regions of the republic of Karelia. In total, due to all sources of financing, in gasification of the republic in 2007 and 2008 it was invested 557,7 million roubles. At the same time, Alexander Yefimov has noted, institutions of local government will have to do their best to organize replacement or repair of the out-of-date municipal networks.
