For the first time Days of Culture of Poland were held in September, 2005 within the scope of the big project of the Polish Institute of Adam Mickiewicz in Poland, Moscow, St.-Petersburg, Nizhni Novgorod, Kazan, Ekaterinburg, Sochi and other cities of Russia. Traditional task of mutual exchange and demonstration of cultural achievements of Poland and Russia has been completed. All events have proved a draw with Karelian public. In December, 2005 the Jadviga Polish culture society was registered in Karelia.
In July Minister of Culture of Karelia Galina Brun and the Ambassador of Poland in Russia Jerzy Bar negotiated on further cooperation, including carrying out of the Days of Culture of Poland in Karelia in October, 2008.
Solemn opening of the Days of Culture of Poland in Karelia was held on September 30 in the Karelian state philarmonic society.
The Program of the further cooperation between Karelia and Poland assumes exchange of creative teams, organization of events, devoted to the 200 anniversary of F.Chopin's birth, participation of Polish experts in the Wooden Architecture of Karelia as a Phenomenon of National Culture international conference to be held in June, 2009 together with the university of Florence, and also research work on studying history of stay of the Poles in Karelia (together with the National Archive of the RK). The Consulate General of Poland in St.-Petersburg has proposed to hold the Chopin competition in the Republic of Karelia in 2010.
