The Northern Star international Remote festival of ethnic theatres of countries of the Barents Euro-Arctic Region and the Finno-Ugric world ended in Petrozavodsk

The Northern Star international Remote festival of ethnic theatres of countries of the Barents Euro-Arctic Region and the Finno-Ugric world ended in Petrozavodsk on September 27.

The authoritative Council of Experts comprising the specialist in folklore Viola Malmi, professor of St.-Petersburg State Academy of theatre art Elena Markova, playwright from the Republic of Komi Alexey Popov, consul – director of Petrozavodsk branch of the Consulate General of Finland in St.-Petersburg Paula Sirkija and the Northern Star project director and director of National Theatre Sergey Pronin has summed up the festival.

Its winners in various nominations became the V.SavinState academic drama theatre (Syktyvkar, Republic of Komi), M.Gorky Komi-Permyatski national drama theatre (Kudymkar, Komi-Permyatski Autonomous District), Puppet Theatre of the Republic of Karelia, National theatre of Latvia, Olga Aleksandrovna (Theatre of Ob-Ugrian peoples of Khanty-Mansiysk, Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous District - Yugra) and National theatre of Karelia.

Special prize of the Council of Experts For Careful Preservation of National Traditions was awarded to the Shondyban ensemble, participant of The Legend of Kudym-Osh performance of M.Gorky Komi-Permyatski national drama theatre.

The festival held at the support of the Barents Sekretariat, the Ministry of Culture and Public Relations and Ministry on National Politics and Relations with Religious Associations of the Republic of Karelia ended with an interesting seminar on the subject of Folklore in Modern Theatre in which experts and theatrical figures have taken part.

The Council of Experts recommended to invite performances - winners of the international Remote festival - to the full-scale Northern Star festival of theatres of of countries of the Barents Euro-Arctic Region and the Finno-Ugric world to be held in Petrozavodsk in September, 2009.
