Meetings with the delegation of the Finland-Russia Society were held in the Government and Legislative Assembly of the Republic of Karelia.
The Finland-Russia (Suomi-Venäjä-Seura) Society is an independent non-party public organization (totals about 16,000 members, where work about 200 primary organizations of the Society). Operating in Finland since 1944 it unites people with various interests: fans of Russian language, people interested in Russia and its culture, those associated with Russia by the nature of their activity, and also people interested in culture of Finno-Ugric people living in territory of Russia.
Chairman of the Finland-Russia Society Heikki Talvitie (former ambassador of Finland in the USSR and Russia, now - the ambassador of Finland in OSCE), the secretary general of Society Merja Hannus and executive director of the district organization of the Society in North Finland Matti Ukkola were received by the acting Assistant to the Prime minister of the Government of the Republic of Karelia Vanda Patenko and the Legislative Assembly of the Republic of Karelia Vice-Chailady Galina Razbivnaya.
Organizational issues concerning revival of the Karelia-Finland friendship society as well as opportunity of carrying out of joint actions in the future have been considered during the meetings in the Ministry of the Republic of Karelia on National Politics and Relations with Religious Associations and Ministry of Culture and Public Relations of the Republic of Karelia at participation of all interested parties.
