Karelian logger to win bronze at the World Championship in Germany

SPORTCOM news agency. In October of 2008 Tripsdril national park located near Stuttgart, Germany, for a few days has turned to the central arena of the world logging industry. From October 3 to 5 there passed the World Logging Championship, which brought Russia another prestigious award.

With result of 1623 points of 1660 possible, having conceded only 6 points to the silver prize-winner Jukka Peramaki, Finland, and 26 points to the winner Balz Recher, Switzerland, member of the Russian team Alexander Surovtsev became the bronze prize-winner of the individual championship. In five disciplines stipulated by the championship rules Alexander Surovtsev has shown high results, having outstripped both ordinary participants, and owners of awards of individual championships of former years, such as the World championship of 2004 silver prize-winner Massimiliano Biemmi from Italy, the Championship of 2006 silver prize-winner Anders Olesk from Estonia, the world championship of 2006 bronze prize-winner Wolfgang Heidemann from Germany, and the absolute world champion of 2006 Johann Raffl from Italy. In total 86 'pro' sportsmen and 29 'juniors' from 29 countries have taken part in the championship.

Held since 1970 World Logging Championship, is a unique international competition for experts working with professional chain-saws. All disciplines of the Championship model situations with which woodcutters face in their professional work: felling, knotting, preparation of chain-saw to work, combined crosscutting and accuracy of sawing. Alexander Surovtsev's results at the 28 Championship has both shown high level of training of Russian sportsmen, and strengthened image of the Russian system of feller training as one of the strongest in the world.

This year for the first time Russia was represented at the World Championship in the Junior nomination in which has acted Vladimir Dashugin (Kondopoga Forest Enterprize, Inc., Karelia). Although Dashugin has not received enough points to become one of three of medallists, the young sportsman has confidently got over the average score in the common results table.

For many years Husqvarna has been a sponsor for the Russian combined team, assisting the sportsmen from Russia in organization of their trip. Due to high efficiency, reliability and safety Husqvarna chain-saws became a choice of professionals worldwide. 52 of 115 sportsmen who have taken part in the 28 World championship, including the combined team of Russia, worked with Husqvarna saws. 14 other sportsmen used Jonsered saws which are also produced at the factory of Husqvarna AB group.

Since 2003 the Husqvarna AB representative office in Russia holds the All-Russia Husqvarna Logging Cup in territory of the Russian Federation as an analogue to the World Championship. This event allows to consolidate logging enterprises of various regions of Russia, establishing qualitative standards of work on the international level. At the Husqvarna Cup 2007 representative of Pudozh Forest Enterprize, Ltd., Alexander Surovtsev became the gold medal winner in the individual championship and has deserved the right to represent Russia at the World Championship.

The next 29th World Championship will pass in 2010 in Croatia. The Russia's combined teem membership in many respects will be defined by results of Husqvarna Cup 2009 to be held next summer in Leningrad region.
