Session of the steering committee on preparation for celebrating the 90th anniversary of the Republic of Karelia took place in Moscow on June 25 chaired by the First Deputy Prime Minister of the Government of the Russian Federation Victor Zubkov. Head of the Republic of Karelia Sergey Katanandov, Assistant to the Prime Mnister of the Government of the RK and Chief of the Administration of the Head of the RK Lyudmila Kosyuk, Assistant to the Prime Minister of the Government of the Republic of Karelia and the Official Representative of the RK at the President of Russian Federation Anatoly Markov have participated in the session.

Opening the session, Victor Zubkov has called Karelia «a pearl of the Russian North» and has emphasized that proper celebration of its anniversary is a requirement of the Prime minister of the Government of Russia Vladimir Putin. The steering committee has gathered to approve the Plan of preparatory measures.

Sergey Katanandov has reported on the Plan of measures, has told about the course of work on preparation for celebrating the republic's anniversary. Actually, matters do not concern preparation of the celebration which are expected rather modest, but completion and construction of many social and cultural objects which commissioning will be dated for the anniversary. The cumulative budget of preparatory measures makes 4,8 billion roubles, and most of these means is assigned by the federal center. This is a lot of money, and a point of honour of the Government of the republic is to disburse it in the right way and time. Issues of financing the preparatory measures have been considered at the session.

Making comments on results of the session, Sergey Katanandov said:
– For a long time we have been using program method and we have been supported by the Government of the Russian Federation when we could prove that we were able to work effectively. First Deputy Prime Minister of the Government of the RF Victor Zubkov is heading the steering committee and of course it allows us to raise the status of the anniversary preparation program and to include significant events in it. Almost five billions roubles is assigned for the preparation, ant this sum is to be assimilate in 2009-2011. During the period of the common crisis it will be difficult to perform such volume of financing for for us, and for the federal budget. Today we have just discussed ways of better realization of the program. I think, everything will be fine. The money is already being transferred to the republic. The site of highway between Petrozavodsk and the settlement of Matrosy is being constructed. The next stage is completion of the road towards the border. Construction of new schools in Sheltozero and Sukkozero to be opened by September 1, is financed. Construction of pool in Kostomuksha comes to the end. Money was also transferred to the Clean Water project in Petrozavodsk, so the work is about to start…
The arrangement on meeting in the neat session of the steering committee in September in Petrozavodsk has been made.
