Segezha Pulp-and-Paper Plant has turned 70. On July 3 in Segezha there passed the celebration of the enterprise's anniversary, and on the weekend the townspeople have celebrated the day of the town, — a holiday which also is dated for start-up of the pulp-and-paper plant. To congratulate Segezha on the holiday there has come the Prime Minister of the Government of Karelia Pavel Chernov, and many guests and partners of the plant.

His visit to the pulp-and-paper mill Pavel Chernov has started with meetings with representatives of he plant and management of Investlesprom Joint-Stock Company, large Russia's timber industry company which today includes Segezha Pulp-and-Paper Plant and a number of other timber enterprises of the republic. The main subject of the meeting was work of the pulp-and-paper plant under conditions of the global financial crisis and prospects of development of the plant.

As one of heads of Investlesprom Vasily Preminin has told, after the shock caused by the global crisis, the situation in Segezha became stabilized. Investment made before, as well as a set of anti-recessionary measures, have brought real results. Today Segezha Pulp-and-Paper Plant is loaded on full capacity, all its production is claimed in the market, on results of the year the enterprise plans to achieve the last year's parameters, and probably to exceed it.

However, the general macroeconomic situation does not develop in favour of paper-makers: production prices in the world markets fall, reform of energy sector leads to growth of electricity costs, while the enterprise does not presume increasing in costs. To give no way to stagnation and not to lose global competitive activity, Segezha needs radical reconstruction of production and release of new kinds of production. The Polar Bear project which realization is prepared in Investlesprom and Segezha Pulp-and-Paper Plant today should become the answer to these economic challanges.
