On the eve of the International Day of Native Language the Minister on National Politics and Relations with Religious Associations Andrey Manin has held a meeting with heads of some youth public associations of the Baltic and Finnish peoples. Chairman of Nuori Karjala (Young Karelia) youth public organization Natalia Antonova, Director of Trias youth public organization Sergey Kasyanov and Chairman of Youth association of Finno-Ugric peoples Alexey Tsykarev have taken part in the meeting.
Results of cooperation of the ministry and the public in 2009, as well as ways of expansion of this cooperation were the staple subjects of the conversation. Participants of the meeting have recognized that multilateral cooperation has great prospects. Andrey Manin has shared with colleagues information on the guidelines of development of the national policy of the state in Karelia, and, in turn, heads of public organizations have told the minister about their new creative concepts, regional and inter-regional projects to be implemented on the year of the 90th anniversary of the Republic of Karelia.
The parties have pointed out elaboration of the strategy of development of the National Theatre of the Republic of Karelia as the issue of the day. Both the public, and the government of the republic recognize that the National Theatre plays an important role in preservation and popularization of culture and languages of the Baltic and Finnish peoples. Development of repertoire policy, search of actor's talents, their training make a spectrum of tasks which shouild be solved together by the management of the theatre, bodies of the government and public organizations.
Participants of the meeting have also discussed the issue of responsible and steady forest exploitation by logging companies in places of compact residing of indigenous peoples. On the one hand, it is necessary to watch the companies consultating with local residents, ecological and public organizations on allocation of socially significant places from pieces of woodland. On the other hand, it is necessary to inform communities of indigenous peoples on the rights and duties regarding joint forest exploitation.
Director of Trias has told his colleagues how thanks to interference of public organization and international independent expert it became possible to eliminate the escalated conflict between inhabitants of the village of Tunguda and one of the logging companies. As a result of public hearings, individual consultations and negotiations, the company has excluded a number of pieces of woodland of great value for the local population from the logging plans and has taken on additional social obligations to local residents.
