National organizations are getting ready for the celebration

90th annversary of the Republic of Karelia

Traditionally, Sergey Katanandov pays a lot of attention to national issues that is brightly reflected and in work of the Government of Karelia. Suffice it to say, that the Republic of Karelia today is the only constituent territory of the federation where there is a ministry working in this sphere. Our experience is interesting to many national regions of the country. Participants of the meeting have pointed out that in the modern period national organizations cooperate with the ministry on terms of equal partnership.

This meeting has been devoted to the main issue of the year – celebrating the 65th anniversary of the Victory and the 90th anniversary of the republic. National public organizations in their own way prepare for these dates. At the meeting they have shared their plans and offers with the Head of the Republic. For example, Chairlady of the Council of representatives of the VI Congress of Karelians, Chairlady of The League of the Baltic and Finnish peoples Karelian regional public organization Olga Zharinova has told about publications on national problematics prerpared for the day, about an interesting project Karelian family devoted to restoration of Karelian rural way of life.

Vice-President of the Council of Representatives of Karelians, Veppsians and Finns Victor Bogdanov has made an offer to carry out a uniform open lesson 90 Years of Karelia in all schools of the republic.

Chairlady of the Board of The Veppsian Culture Society Karelian regional public organization Zynaida Strogalshchikova has told about national publishing activities, scientific work on development of national written language. Thanks to this work, for example, there have been published translations of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights into national languages of Karelia.

Member of the board of The Essoila Karelians Karelian regional public organization Olga Ivanova presented the Head of the Republic the first-ever animation film in Karelian language.

Sergey Katanandov has rated high work of national cultural organizations and has made a number of offers and wishes to their activity. In particular, he has advised to work in more cooperation with the national school, to participate in creation of textbooks on language, history and culture of indigenous people of republic.

– We are interested to make celebrating of the 90th anniversary of the Republic of Karelia not just a set of the objects commissioned by a certain date, but to make it an original training project that would enable people to recollected the history once again, to turn to their origins, honour the merits of those who gave their lives for the benefit of our republic, – Sergey Katanandov has emphasized.

As usual, the conversation at the meeting went beyond the scope of the announced subject. In particular, representatives of national organizations and Head of the Republic have in detail discussed the issue of preservation of rural way of life as a guarantee of preservation of traditional national ways.

Public organizations today are reliable partners of authorities in the sphere of harmonization of interethnic relations. Representatives of 23 peoples exercise their constitutional right of association today in the republic. There are 54 national public associations including 15 of national and cultural autonomies.
